2008

Humble Beginnings

2008 – Shortly after returning to his home state of Connecticut from Latin America, where he lived finishing his dissertation on Latin American Economics, Murphy starts import company from family garage.

2009

Distribution License

2009 – After 9 months of failed attempts to be picked up by major wholesalers, Murphy obtains his own distribution license in 800 sq ft storage garage.

2010

New, High Profile Brands

2010 – Murphy introduces high profile brands, immediately making an impact on the marketplace, with Revana, Frank Family, Chave, etc.

2011

Larger Warehouse

2011 – Murphy moves into larger, 5,000 square feet warehouse, with 2 sales people and 1 truck.

2012

Hurricane Irene Support

2012 – Murphy launches ‘Buy Wine, Help CT’ in an effort to help rebuild towns after Hurricane Irene decimated the CT shoreline.  Supporting families in need, in local towns, in the names of our customers.

2013

Yahoo Recognition

2013 – Yahoo recognizes Matthew Murphy as an industry expert and weights in on opinion piece about the wine industry.

2014

Small Business Person of the Year

2014 – Murphy is awarded small business person of the year in Connecticut.

2015

Murphy Foundation

2015 – The Murphy Foundation official 501c3 is born as an evolution to ‘Buy Wine, Help CT’, keeping its promise to help provide support top local families in need

2016

Larger Warehouse Facility

2016 – Murphy moves into 20,000 square foot facility in Branford, CT

2017

Acquired Innovino CT

2017 – Murphy acquires the Innovino CT wholesale company and integrates its portfolio into the Murphy offering, expanding Murphy’s customer base and reach across the state.

2018

Celebrates 1000th Customer

2018 – Murphy celebrates its 1,000th customer and a 60/40 off & on trade mix

2018

Partnership with Cure Rare Disease

2018 – Murphy teams up with Cure Rare Disease and focuses its philanthropic efforts in full to CRD.

2019

10 Year Anniversary

2019 – Murphy celebrates 10 years in business

2020

Murphy Beverage Company

2020 – Murphy parent company is renamed Murphy Beverage Company, Inc, to reflect the brand image and focus.

2023

Murphy Beverage Company

2023 – Murphy is recognized as “Top Distributor of 2023” in the annual beverage edition of Food & Business Magazine

Matthew Murphy opened a fine wine import company in January of 2008, shortly after returning to his home state of Connecticut from Latin America, where he lived finishing his dissertation on Latin American Economics.  Murphy’s stated promise was to become the first-choice supplier of fine wine & spirits in Connecticut, for businesses looking to enhance their success and brand image.  Murphy does this by offering the best customer service in the industry, via business analytics and consulting with customers on the best fit products, education, and training.  Today, Murphy operates in all 8 counties, next day delivery statewide, state of the art facility and ERP software with full off and on trade coverage and development.
